Comenius SW, based in HLSS has coordinated a major twinning agreement between 12 Local Authorities in the south west and the 8 provinces of Andalucia, Spain. The agreement covers all sectors of education from primary to HE and the aim is to promote language teaching and cooperation at all levels. It is hoped that in the future there will be opportunities for pupil and teacher exchanges, job- shadowing, work placements, joint curriculum projects, student mobility etc. The project is strongly supported by the British Council and the Education Department of the Spanish Embassy, and it is seen as a model for further such regional links in the future.
The formal signing of the agreements took place at the Spanish Embassyon 13 October 2007 and was hosted by the Ambassador of Spain, who is taking a personal interest in this project.
Irene Wilkie, Comenius SW Regional Manager said, ‘This is a very exciting project which has the potential to benefit the South West educational community in a host of different ways. The terms of the agreement allow for exchanges and joint projects between teachers, students, adult learners, trainee teachers andeducational administrators. We hope all sectors will take advantage of it’.
